Jeremy Ley, Director of Bands

Mr. Jeremy Ley is in his fifth year as Director of Bands at Dutch Fork High School. Originally from
Mount Pleasant, SC, Mr. Ley graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina in
2015 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education.


Mr. Ley was the Assistant Band Director at Dutch Fork Middle School from 2015-2018. The Dutch
Fork Middle School Band is a consistent recipient of the SCBDA Outstanding Performance Award
and consistently receives Superior ratings at Concert Performance Assessment. In 2017, the 8th
grade band was named Grand Champion at the Southern Star Music festival in Atlanta, GA. In 2018,
Mr. Ley took the Jazz Band to Jazz Performance Assessment for the first time and received a
Superior rating.


The Dutch Fork High School Band has received many accolades under Mr. Ley’s direction. The
Symphonic Winds has consistently received superior ratings at Concert Performance Assessment
and received a Superior with Distinction rating in 2022. The Dutch Fork Band has received the
SCBDA Outstanding Performance Award every year that it has been given.


Mr. Ley has been working with Silver Spirit Marching Band for the past 7 years. In that time, the
marching band has achieved many accolades, including two 2nd place finishes and a 3rd place
finish at the SCBDA 4A Lower State Championships, consistently being named a finalist at the
SCBDA 4A State Championships, and performances at the 2017 Bands of America Regional
Championships in Winston-Salem, NC and the 2019 Bands of America Regional Championships in
Johnson City, TN.


While at USC, Mr. Ley was a member of the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, Left Bank Big
Band, Trumpet Ensemble, and the Carolina Band. Additionally, Mr. Ley has had the opportunity to
study conducting with Rebecca Phillips. Mr. Ley was also a member of the Wando High School Band
in Mount Pleasant, SC. In addition to being named 5A State marching band champions, Mr. Ley
participated with the band in the 2007 Midwest Clinic in Chicago, IL, and was a finalist in the 2009
Bands of America Grand National Championships in Indianapolis, IN. Mr. Ley’s professional
affiliations include the South Carolina Band Directors Association and National Association for Music
Education.


Outside of teaching, Mr. Ley enjoys spending his time as a music producer and has music released
under his name on several streaming services including Spotify and Apple Music. Mr. Ley is also a
co-owner of Pendle Alpacas, an Alpaca farm owned by his family in Jefferson, NC.
